Helping Kids Thrive with Occupational Therapy

Jacayia Austin Cuartas – Pediatric Occupational Therapist in Providence, RI
Jacayia Austin Cuartas

Hi, I’m Jacayia Austin Cuartas

I’m an Occupational Therapist and lactation consultant specializing in pediatric feeding and development. I support infants and children with picky eating, transitioning to solids, bottle feeding, torticollis, laryngomalacia, and other challenges that affect feeding and development. With experience in outpatient care, the NICU, and in-home therapy, I provide individualized support to help children meet their feeding and developmental goals.

Why I love what I do:

I love seeing parents grow in confidence as they bond with their children and find routines that support their needs.

Why I’m passionate about in-home care:

I love in-home therapy because it allows me to understand each family’s daily routines and the resources they have to support their child’s needs.

What does a Occupational Therapist Do?

Occupational therapists support children in building everyday skills—so they can grow, play, and be more independent. If your child struggles with things like getting dressed, using utensils, paying attention, or staying calm in new situations, an OT can help.

OTs focus on:

• Fine motor skills – like holding a pencil, buttoning a shirt, or using scissors

• Sensory processing – supporting kids who are extra sensitive to sounds, textures, or movement (or don’t seem to notice them at all)

• Emotional regulation – helping kids manage big feelings and focus at school or home‍

• Independence and daily skills – like brushing teeth, tying shoes, or washing hands.

Occupational therapy supports kids at home, at school, and in everyday life—so they can feel confident and capable in the things they do every day.
