Helping Kids Thrive with Speech Therapy

Sarah Riley - Pediatric Speech Therapist in Pittsburgh
Sarah Riley

Hi, I'm Sarah!

I’m a speech therapist passionate about helping young children develop confident, effective communication skills in a supportive, neuro-affirming environment. My approach goes beyond the therapy room—I partner with caregivers through collaborative parent coaching to empower them as active participants in their child’s progress. Together, we build practical strategies that fit naturally into daily routines like playtime, meals, and reading—making communication growth part of everyday life.

‍

Why I love what I do:

What I love most is the opportunity to build meaningful connections with children and their families. I enjoy collaborating and finding creative solutions to every day communication challenges.

Why I’m passionate about in-home care:

I love home-based care because it happens right where communication naturally occurs—during play, meals, and everyday routines. Kids are often more relaxed and engaged in their own environment, and I get to coach parents in real time, helping them feel confident using strategies that make a difference every day.

What Does a Speech Therapist Do?

Speech-language pathologists (also known as speech therapists or SLPs) help kids communicate—whether they’re late to talk, hard to understand, or struggling to express themselves. They also support kids with feeding, swallowing, and social interaction. SLPs focus on:

‍
• Speech sounds – helping kids say words clearly so others can understand them
• Language development – building vocabulary, following directions, and expressing ideas
• Social skills – learning how to have conversations, ask questions, advocate for their needs, and take turns
• Stuttering – supporting smoother, more confident speech
• Feeding and swallowing – helping with picky eating, chewing, swallowing challenges, and texture sensitivities

‍
Speech therapy gives kids the tools to express themselves and connect with the people around them—at home, in school, and in the world.
